The swimmers and rugby players of Deepings came together last Saturday morning to further develop their commitment to safety in sport. Deepings Rugby Club was the venue on for a British Red Cross Save-a-Life Course. The course was attended by coaches’, parents, rugby players and swimmers.

Both clubs are involved heavily with children from the Deepings and in effort to ensure the safety of the children a joint venture was arranged by Peter Ward, President of the Deepings Rugby Club and a First Aid responder himself. Peter said “The Rugby Club takes the welfare of all our members seriously and we provided the course to parents and coaches for free. The Club was this year awarded the RFU Seal of Approval which an award based around the safety and well being of our mini’s and junior players.”

“You can never under estimate the importance of knowing the basics of first aid and the Red Cross provide some fantastic training with the rugby club being a well suited venue, we are more then happy to work with any local business’s or clubs or organisations that would like to run a similar course. The club is available most weekdays and off season we can accommodate weekends too”

What Can We Do To Help You?

The British Red Cross in the Deepings can offer you and your friends or organisation a range of support and training including;

• A two hour Save-a-Life Course. This trains you how and when to use CPR on an unconscious casualty while you wait for the emergency services. It can be adapted for those wanting to look after children or babies. The usual charge is £2.50 per person and the course can run in your own premises.

• A four hour emergency life support course. This course covers CPR but also other life threatening injuries or illnesses such as bleeding, heart conditions and shock. The course can be adapted to include treatment for children and babies. The usual charge is £5.00 per person.

• The full 28 hour First Aid Certificate course. We run this every September to December at the Community Centre. The course takes place for 14 Tuesdays from 7.30 – 9.45 p.m. and leads to fully qualified First Aider status. It covers the complete range of first aid treatments for accident, emergency and illness. The course normally costs £35, including the Red Cross first aid manual.

• First Aid duties and cover for local events. If you are holding any event where large numbers of people are present, from sports days and fetes to dances and shows, you can ask us to provide cover from two first aiders up to full ambulance and first aid unit support.
