Didsburys relegation fate appears to be sealed, after losing 10-17 to fellow strugglers Oldham last Saturday.

It demonstrated Didsburys difficult season, when this was the first week that the team selected on Tuesday took the field on Saturday.

With no withdrawals Didsbury were able to name a strong line-up and started the game on the front foot. Didsbury made numerous visits to Oldhams territory, but time and again Didsbury either made an error or were penalised. The Didsbury scrum was causing Oldham all sorts of problems, with hooker Mike Hyde taking nearly double figures against the put-in during the entire match. With Didsbury having the vast share of possession the pressure soon told, with winger Dave Hoare crashing over for a try from close range. Davies added the conversion and Didsbury looked by far the better side on display. Oldham got off the mark through a penalty but Davies replied as Toc H finished the opening period with a 10-3 advantage.

Didsbury held a slender lead at the halftime break, but the team along with the large support were hopeful of more scores in the second half. This however was not to be the case as time and again Didsburys efforts were thwarted by a desperate Oldham defence. That is how it remained until 10 minutes from time, when after a series of penalties Oldham forced their way over for a try under the posts. The conversion was added to level the game 10-10.

The impetus was suddenly with Oldham who scored the match-winning try five minutes later after a break from inside their own half. A shell-shocked Didsbury tried in vain to strike back but the final whistle came too soon.

Didsbury must now wait to see the result of next Saturdays game between De La Salle and Wigton. If Salford outfit De La Salle lose, Didsbury will play a rearrange game against Rossendale, where a win will see Didsbury leapfrog De La Salle to a potentially safe league position.
