Your News Woodbridge out rucked by Cantabridgian

Cantabs, with some significant changes from their last meeting, were aggressive from the start, their large pack mauling the visitors back and, in a mirror image of their last meeting, the busy Pascal Relut at No 9 scored inside 5 minutes. In the cool dry conditions Woodbridge gathered themselves to drive steadily into their opponents half using frequent penalties to ratchet up the pitch. Capt Armour was the first casualty of Cantabs tough rucking as the hosts forwards took on the Warriors backs. Woodbridge kicked for territory but all too often lost the ground to the effective commitment of the larger Cantabs forwards who struck again with a great feed to their right winger to score from deep. Woodbridge came back at them from the off, Simpkin - Betts had a good chip and chase, but again possession was squandered when Cantab full-back Keith Ryan charged down his opposite numbers clearance kick to score on 40 mins and end the half with 19 unanswered points.

Woodbridge spent more time in their hosts half from the restart with Johno Cooke and Oli Gray putting in some good hard runs but, despite winning a number of penalties, they failed to break the defence. Tempers became frayed with frustration as kicks to the corner failed to produce the goods until finally the visitors took 3 points. Cantabs werent done however and put together five phases up to the Warrior 22m line where they won two penalties and eventually Steve Skeggs scored. Two minutes later Cantabs full-back Keith Ryan scored his second from identical forward gathering, rucking and clearing out against an indecisive opposition. With their tails up the hosts out-rucked their way back to the Warriors 22, particularly their No 4 Justin Stanbridge, where a penalty gave their stand-off and coach; Jamie Traxton the last score.
