NORTH WEST neighbours Cheshire and Lancashire are involved in a winner-takes-all tussle in the National RU Under 20 Championship at Crewe Vagrants RFC on Sunday (March 14).

While defending North champions Yorkshire need a win over Durham at Malton & Norton RFC to clinch the title and a Quarter-final place after four straight wins this season, the destination of the Runners-up spot - and the second Quarter-final place - will be decided at Crewe.

Both sides have suffered their only defeat against Yorkshire and while the Red Rose team has a far superior scoring average which could be decisive in the event of a draw, with home advantage, Cheshire will be hopeful of snatching the prize after a morale-boosting 23-20 win at Northumberland last weekend.

Lancashire will have drawn plenty of confidence from a 67-5 home win over Durham, while the White Rose side put Cumbria to the sword in ruthless fashion, winning 93-3 in a game curtailed by injury to the referee.

Cumbria will be hoping to close their programme on a more positive note when they entertain Northumberland at Cockermouth RFC on Sunday.
