ROSES rivals Yorkshire and Lancashire remain the only unbeaten teams in the Northern division of the National Under 20 RU Championship after today's second series of matches.

Durham, one of the three unbeaten teams after the opening day programme, went down 20-8 against Cheshire at Lymm, while Lancashire and Yorkshire both made it two wins from as many outings.

Defending Northern Champions Yorkshire were glad to come away from Driffield with an 18-13 win over Northumberland having seen their line-up wrecked by a catalogue of injuries in Saturday club games.

"We had to make eight changes to the selected side because of players getting hurt, so while the game was nothing to write home about - other than for the neutral supporters, who found it exciting - I'm very pleased we managed a win."

The White Rose team had tries by Dinnington No 8 Will Marshall and Wharfedale lock Richard Rhodes, Bradford & Bingley centre Tom Davidson adding a conversion and two penalties.

Tynedale centre Seb Visser crossed for Northumberland and clubmate fly-half Andrew Hall landed a conversion and two penalties, but the visitors were left to ponder the self-imposed handicap of having two men sent to the sin-bin.

While Lancashire were winning 39-9 against Cumbria in Carlisle, Cheshire put themselves back in contention for one of the two qualifying places from the North table by beating Durham at Lymm.

Tries by Stockport scrum-half Jack Wynstanley, club-mate and prop McKay and Wirral wingman Ryan Catahan gave Cheshire the edge in a scrappy contest, Wirral full-back Tom Bills adding a conversion and a penalty.
