Your News Northern Rugby Union clubs get grants

RUGBY Football Foundation grants and loans totalling over 290,000 have been approved that will improve the facilities at 19 RU clubs in the North of England.

Main developments are on the Isle of Man, where a loan of 100,000 has been agreed to support a relocation of the Vagabonds RFC headquarters to a new site, and at Burnage RFC, where another loan of 100,000 will help to finance the installation of a full-size artificial pitch.

Elsewhere ten grants of 6,000 have been approved for projects ranging from pitch drainage, floodlighting and boiler replacement.

The Rugby Football Foundation (RFF) is a major funding source for clubs in England that has invested more than 12.5million in the community game over the last six years.

The charitable trust established by the Rugby Football Union in 2003 has now invested 12,586,403 in 915 projects to develop amateur rugby clubs.

A total of 182 projects have received interest free loans worth 9,021,874, while 733 Ground Match grants have been made to the value of 3,564,529.

In all the awards have stimulated investment in projects with a total value of 38,960,003.

The Northern clubs and the projects involved are:

North Manchester - 6,000 - Disabled facilities and lavatory improvements

Medicals - 4,025 - Purchase of portable floodlights

West Leeds - 5,665 - Repair damaged drain and install fence

Sefton - 6,000 - New pitch drainage improvements

West End - 5,276 - Purchase of portable floodlights

Old Rishworthians - 5,204 - Refurbishment of showers and erection of fencing and new goalposts

Widnes - 6,000 - Boiler replacement

Winlaton Vulcans - 6,000 - Drainage installation on two pitches

Rochdale - 6,000 - Creation of new training pitch on waste land within club's freehold.

Baildon - 6,000 - Boiler replacement and refurbishment of showers, removal of asbestos and new water supply

Lymm - 6,000 - Surface level and drainage work to facilitate the creation of two new adult pitches and one mini/junior pitch on land acquired by the club adjacent to their existing site.

Burnley - 6,000 - Drainage installation on two pitches

Wirral - 4,377 - Creation of additional car part as required by highways agency and local authority.

Dinnington - 6,000 - Creation of three new mini pitches

Old Modernians - 6,000 - Clubhouse re-roofing.

Eccles - 2,215 - Repairs to damaged fencing on all weather pitch

Vale of Lune - 4,611 - Renovation of existing drains

Burnage - 100,000 loan - Installation of full size Artificial Grass Pitch

Vagabonds - 100,000 loan - Relocation of club to new Ballafletcher site.
