Your News Woodbridge Amazon Lou Rickard nominated for BBC Award

Woodbridge Amazons centre, and Welsh Womens Rugby International, Louise Lou Rickard is one of only six contenders for the prestigious BBC Wales Sports Personality of the Year 2009. Lou is not only the most capped player in the history of Womens Rugby with over 109 caps but is also a driving force behind the Woodbridge Amazons back line, playing in most positions and often covering as Captain in the absence of EJ Stearn. As EJ says Lous an inspirational and totally dedicated rugby player on and off the pitch. Always willing to use her fitness and experience to help others.

Lou commented Its an honour to be shortlisted for this award for pursuing my passion for Rugby. While representing my country is always a flattering responsibility it is also great to keep my perspective by playing grass roots rugby with The Amazons at Woodbridge. The Club has continued to support and encourage me especially our Coach, Roger Coombs, who has helped particularly with elements like my kicking and passing. The Amazons are a dedicated group and Id encourage girls of any age, beginners to experts, to come and join in.

Lou teaches at Woodbridge School and is full of praise for its Headmaster, Mr Cole, and the staff who help cover when international duty calls.

Emma Magic Johnson, Amazons full-back and so often there outside Lou on the field of play added Lou is a huge asset to The Amazons, not only because she is such a talented player but her dedication and enthusiasm towards the game is an inspiration to experienced to new players alike. We all learn a great deal from her playing and coaching abilities and are so pleased she has been nominated for this deserved award. I'm sure I can speak for everyone when I say I feel lucky to be able to play alongside her.

To vote for Lou telephone; 0901 522 2804 regional results will be announced on Monday, 7 December 1830-1900 and the BBC One coverage of the national event is live on BBC One on Sunday, 13 December 1900.
