Mersea Island overrun by Warriors

An unsure Woodbridge arrived in Mersea to find an under strength opposition in need of a loaner if the league game was to be counted. Woodbridge agreed and play got underway. Within minutes Woodbridge worked the ball wide for Iain Johnson to score under the sticks to get the first of his 5 tries! With their tails up the visitors repeatedly bulldozed Merseas weakening scrum backwards which provided excellent launch conditions for their backs and forced some tough defending from the home team. Only this and a couple of handling errors stopped a cricket score as the half ended 47 - 0.

Mersey got themselves together at half time, and scored what turned out to be a consolation try from a missed tackle that allowed them under the posts. The ensuing blur of scores included a lucky one for Andy Brown who charged down, dived and got a hand at full stretch to score as well as James Lillicrap's first ever try for the club when the Woodbridge forwards decided to get involved in the running game with great lines being run by Adi Illingworth, Bobby Armour, James Lillicrap, Diddy and Andy Brown which split a hole in the host defence and sent James flying over for his try.

A festival of scores from some great rugby with everyone getting involved, an enjoyable spectacle (unless youre from Mersea) capped off by a Sam Jackson drop goal for good measure!
