Your News Woodbridge Warriors 50 - Maldon 15

The Warriors welcomed Maldon to a damp and windy Hatchley Barn seeking a place in the last 16 of the RFU Junior Vase competition and keen to put last weeks league defeat to table-topping Newmarket behind them.

The hosts, wearing unfamiliar yellow stripes to avoid colour clash, showed pace and variety to quickly stamp their authority on the game. Tries came fast from Olly Gray, Iain Johnson with an opportunistic breakaway try and Johno Cooke storming over from the back of the scrum. A bewildered Maldon rallied and worked the blind-side well to interfere and disrupt a clearly well worked Warrior game-plan and pulled back two scores but failed to prevent another from Woodbridge.

Maldon continued to move the ball quickly in the second half, raising the tempo and allowing their strong midfield to exploit some Woodbridge errors, particularly in their changed line-out but also through some ill-discipline. In the end however a dominant Warrior pack regained control and, with some first-class play from Josh Simpkin-Betts at No 10 and Tristram Steward at full-back, put another four tries past Maldon who only managed one more score.

Back to league duties next week for Woodbridge as they head north to take on Crusaders.
