THREE South African referees on a recent exchange visit to the Manchester & District Society underlined that they were prepared to explore all avenues on the learning pathway by getting involved in youth rugby.

The trio of Blake Beattie, Stefan Gerber and Magnus Oosthuizen from Natal Referees Union added an international flavour to the North Lancashire Year 8 Emerging Schools festival at Blackburn when they accepted an invitation from festival organiser Greg Hodgkinson, the Fleetwood Community Rugby Coach.

"The lads have enjoyed their stay and took advantage of the opportunity to taste a different rugby culture." said Hodgkinson: "Their support for this local tournament was also very much appreciated and they were impressed at the quality of rugby displayed by Year 8 teams within the Emerging Schools area.

"The festival proved to be another successful day for North Lancashire, their Rugby Development Officer Stuart Urquhart and the rest of his team. The Springbok referees proved a hit with the players and teachers alike. This type of exchange can only benefit the players and referees and further strengthens the relationship with the Manchester Society, the Rugby Development Team and Natal Referee Union.
