Your News Woodbridge Amazons rise to Readings challenge

On a bright, still and chilly day the visitors started strongly and kept the Amazons pinned back in their own half. Readings scrum half, Rachael Chidgey, distributed well and their three-quarter line had the best of possession. The Amazons failed to build plays but snatched attacks from the frequent Reading infringements. Towards the end of the first quarter, and against the run of play, Woodbridges captain EJ Stearn drew the Reading pack to put Kat Mead over. Reading maintained pressure from the restart, their pack denied their hosts quick ball and any significant opportunities. The Amazon back line looked nervous no more so than when awarded a drop out in their own 22 - a poor long pass went behind Emma Johnson at full back and gifted the visitors an unconverted try by Rhian Evans at number 10. Shortly after Woodbridge was penalised and Reading pushed over for another try.

The Amazons looked determined as they started the second half 7:10 behind. Reading came at them with strong runs from deep forcing some numbing tackles from the Amazon flankers in particular. As seen in previous matches the home team digs deep to find some form and Captain EJ Stearn kicked an amazing long penalty to touch. The Reading defence entrenched forcing the Amazons into open play and their full back Emma Magic Johnson kicked, collected and scored. From the kick-off Debbie Dumbill drove 20 metres and it was these forward driven platforms that gave the resurgent Amazon backs space so it wasnt long before Magic carried 50 metres into the opposition 22 and scored her second try after recycling. The Amazons have now won all four of their league matches, the last three in similar second-half style. Their next match should be a cracker - away against top-of-the-table Wimbledon, unbeaten in 6 matches.
