Your News Southport Junior Colts 27 - Port Sunlight Junior Colts 15

Last weekend Port Sunlight visited Southport Junior Colts in round 8 of the league.

The home team had spells of good pressure and Dan Rodaway managed to get over the line by some strenuous efforts but was held up by good defence. Port Sunlight saw the opportunity with numbers wide to slip through Southports defense and score the first try.

A misjudgemented clearance kick by Southport was charged down just meters from the line to allow Port Sunlight to add further points to their score.

Quick thinking after a penalty was awarded to Southport saw Alex Medlicott catch the oppsosition out and score Southport's first try.

Tom Atherton collected the next try when he came out from a scrum yards from the line, taking the scoreline at half-time to 10-10.

The second half continued at a fast pace and some good team work saw the ball passed out to Will Scott Abbott to score a try, and take Southport into the lead for the first time in the match. The visitors still kept up their game and managed to level up the scores once again at 15-15.

Both teams continued the pressure, and the game went end to end. Southports determination was rewarded when the ball spread wide to Phil Weston who had the presence of mind to touch down near the post to allow Danny Banks to convert, despite the strong wind, to give Southport the lead again.

The final points of the game came from an inventive play from Danny Banks who made a strong run then chipped the ball over the defenders head to chase through and land on the ball.

This was a fantastic team performance, with a great result of 27-15 despite several injuries. Thoughts and best wishes are sent to Mark Costello who was badly injured in the game and we hope he gets well soon. Man of the Match was awarded to Daniel Rodaway.
