FOXBURY FESTIVAL - 4 OCTOBER 2009

BECCS UNDER 10S UNDEFEATED CUP CHAMPIONS

Festival Report

As our star reporter was unavailable yesterday it unfortunately falls upon myself to write a small festival report. You will be pleased to hear that I will be keeping it short as due to the excitement of the proceedings I did not have time to write anything down (hurry back Dave).

Beccs vs Dartfordians - 3-0

A good start to a great day. Credit to Dartfordians as they were very strong opposition. Luckily our defense held it together and our forwards were dominant in this match securing all three tries, with Jack Dempsey scoring a brace of brilliant tries. This set the tone for the rest of the day.

Beccs vs TJs - 5-1

Our old friends TJs who we play against on a regular basis were our next opposition. Having spoken to Taff their coach on the sideline it was obvious that both teams were fired up as the last time they met was at the Kent Cup Finals. From the start of this match it was obvious that the Beccs players had had a good breakfast - their heads were well and truly screwed on. The result speaks for itself. Some fanstastic flowing play with brilliant clean ball - a joy to watch.

Beccs vs Old Colfeians - 1-0

Having watched Old Colfs win their last 3 games we knew this was going to be a tough match as always with this team. Our rucking saved the day with Matthew Clarke scoring at the end of the first half. We managed to defend solidly and credit to Colfs who never gave up. A close and fantastic match to watch and the ref praised both teams at the end for their standard of rugby at this stage.

Beccs vs Beckenham - 7-2

At this stage we were gaining more and more confidence. We had won all of our matches but knew Beckenham were tricky customers. We went up 3-0 at half time. At this stage we decided to bring on our trainee scrum half (Tom Hamm) and trainee fly half (Connor Richards) who had played in the previous matches but not at the same time. They were awesome and really stepped up to the mark. I must also mention the Masai warrior, Dominic Williams (Prop) whose jumping in the line-outs was a sight to behold and who also went on to score two tries in quick succession. Amazing.

After big celebrations and Jason and I reeling from the pleasant surprise of all the boys standard of play, wonderful attitude and results that they had achieved, we treated ourselves to a cup of char.

Cup Final: Beccs vs Old Elthamians - 3-0

Strangely enough we then heard the news that was no big surprise that we were to meet our old pals Old Elthamians in the Cup Final. The boys didn't bat an eyelid. They traipsed over to the other pitch and prepared themselves for battle. The Hakka that some of them had learnt at the Beccs New Zealand week (and taught to their team mates) was performed in front of a large and admiring audience. Then they played the most calm, controlled, skilful rugby that we have seen to date (shame the coaches weren't so calm). Needless to say Beccs controlled the game with Elts never really getting into their stride. The Cup was ours.

A massive thanks to our players every single one of them. Henry for his spot on attitude to the sport, Jack for his passion, Matthew Farley for his rottweiller attitude, Isaac who showed potential hooker skills, Dominic - the blue capped bullett, Adam for his tenacity, Tom Hamm for his fearless attitude, Matthew C for stepping up to the mark as Captain for the day, Connor Richards for his ever ready keeness, Eddie for his commanding stature on the pitch, George, Mark, Josh and Tarren for their awesome tackling and ball handling skills. The boys have really come together and their skills and confidence in each other are really beginning to flourish.
