Yamaha Jubilo 20 England Counties 36

ENGLAND COUNTIES completed a hat-trick of wins on their Far East tour by staging a superb comeback to beat Yamaha Jubilo in Shizuoka.

The professional Top League outfit led 20-9 at the interval after scoring three tries, but the Counties forced them into a string of errors and dominated the second half to score 27 unanswered points.

Fylde's Nick Royle, Stourbridge's Tom Richardson and Otley's Steve Parsons all touched down, with Birmingham & Solihull fly half Mark Woodrow's pinpoint goalkicking adding another 21 points.

The gamed was staged at Yamaha's impressive J-League soccer stadium and Jubilo included the likes of Grant McQuoid, who played in midfield for the Chiefs in Super 12, as well as Cheetahs lock Rory Duncan.

They took advantage of some errors early on, an offload in midfield setting up the position for Duncan to force his way over and centre Usuke Nakagaki's midfield break opened up the space for wing So Kiruryon to add a second.

But the Counties played their way back into the game once Woodrow had got them on the board on 20 minutes and launched some of their own dangerous attacks.

Full back Chris Bishay, hooker Joe Graham, centre Pat Leach and flanker Chris Rainbow were all impressive with ball in hand and Jubilo were under pressure at lineout and scrum, where another penalty award allowed Woodrow to add his second penalty.

The tourists conceded a third try, though, when the ball at the back of a lienout broke to flanker Kobiashi who had a clear run-in from 20 metres.

A third Woodrow penalty followed four minutes before the break but Jubilo replied with the last kick of the half after turning over the ball to put the Counties under pressure in their own 22.

At 20-9 down the tourists needed a quick score and they got it after five minutes of the second half thanks to Fylde wing Royle who picked off a loose pass in an attack going nowhere and ran it back 70 metres with Woodrow converting.

They had another break in the 57th minute when Jubilo flanker Keisuke Yagishi was sin-binned for stamping on Seb Moss.

Woodrow punished them immediately, drilling over a superb kick from wide on the left to haul his side back to within a point against 14 men.

They hit the front in style in the 63rd minute, Bishay shredding a poor kick-chase on a weaving run with Wayne Sprangle's assist putting Richardson in under the posts.

Some good defensive pressure from Leach and Harrison created another turnover 10 minutes from time with Parsons the man to race 30 metres to the line. Woodrow's fifth penalty finished off a fine night's work.
