Your News Fylde look to develop referees

Progressive Fylde RUFC has been focussed on all aspects of player development in recent times, but the club will be expanding its sphere of influence into another important area later in the month.

The Fylde Referees Academy, which is to be launched on June 25, will form a focal point for referee development in that part of Lancashire and the North West.

This extra dimension to the multi-faceted development activities at Ansdell will have referee development in Fylde and the surrounding area as a priority, but will also embrace being a base for training and development of any officials; offer opportunities for referees to officiate at games in the local area; provide a pathway for all referees to develop and have opportunities to improve standards; and work at talent identification and analysis for 'fast track' development of young and new referees

Part of this process will be to establish links into the local Referee Associations to provide more officials for games and into Manchester & District Referees Society.

"This is an exciting new scheme in the area and should help all clubs, schools and colleges as well as the existing Referee Societies and Associations to gain more officials and improve standards." says Will Halford, the RFU Referee Development Officer for the North.

"Whilst it is hosted and supported by Fylde RUFC, it should not be seen as limited to their club and we would hope to see as many interested parties as possible attend on June 25 to find out more.

"There will be opportunities to speak to those running the scheme and to provide input into the organisation and programmes that are being created."
