Your News New Fylde flood lights to be tested by Kirkham and Kings Macclesfield

Fylde RFC will have two of the leading rugby schools in the North West in the spotlight when Kirkham Grammar School face Kings School, Macclesfield in the inaugural game under the new floodlights at the Woodlands next Wednesday, December 10 (7pm).

Kirkham's Master in Charge of Rugby, Aled Trenhaille said: "We are delighted to be playing this game. The First XV have had a successful season so far, winning all but one of our games. We have a very strong pack which features Fylde & Ireland U'18s international prop Kieran Brookes. Other outstanding players include North U'18s squad members Daniel Bibby and James Hesketh, and Ireland U'18 squad member Kieran Marmion.

"We have very good links with Fylde and won the club's National School 7s Tournament in March this year."

Trenhaille's counterpart at Kings Macclesfield is a former Fylde player, Andy Rice, who played a season at scrum-half in the early 1990s whilst teaching at Arnold School. He moved on to a long and successful national league career, mostly with Macclesfield RUFC.

He said: "I am delighted to be bringing our First XV to the Woodlands for this match. It will be an honour for us. We've had a mixed season but have won our last five matches so are in quite good shape. We certainly intend to give Kirkham a decent game. We are preparing for a tour to New Zealand next summer and playing schools of the calibre of Kirkham will be excellent preparation."
