EDF JUNIOR CUP FOURTH ROUND;

CHIPPING SODBURY 7 ; 3 TEIGNMOUTH

This was Teignmouth`s first trip into Gloucester for nearly 20 years,but it will be one that wont stick in the memory for long,after the home side snatched victory in the 70th minute,after the Devon side had taken an early lead through a Jason Ellis penalty.

Teignmouth looked the better side as the contest unfolded,and Callum Couch was unlucky to have an early try ruled out,the home sides fullback judged to have held the ball up as the Teigns winger went over the line. After 10 minutes Ellis kicked the visitors only points of the match,although after their bright start further points looked inevitable.

Chipping Sodbury started to gain confidence and the game became a midfield battle with both packs producing plenty of opportunities for their backs to attack but resolute defending and some stray passes kept the score 3 nil to the visitors at half time,although both teams had missed penalty kicks.

The second half went much the same as the first and although Chipping Sodbury were playing down the slope they ,as Teignmouth had in the first half, failed to use it to their advantage until the home sides winger evaded the Teigns defence to score in the corner,their fly half adding 2 points with the conversion.With time running out Teignmouth`s play became frantic and 2 penalty moves in front of the posts came to nothing,when kicking for the points could have seen them snatch the game at the close.

The encouraging news for Teignmouth is that flanker Joe Cockram was given a brief introduction after suffering a back injury, and top try scorer Chris Tidman is back in training after recovering from a broken wrist.

Next Saturday the bitton park club resume their unbeaten leaque run with a home game against St Columba & Torpoint.

Whilst the reserves visit Exmouth 3rds in the merit table.
