Your News North East Worcestershire Ravens RLFC 52 vs 12 Nottingham Outlaws A

The Ravens winning the toss opted to play up the slope and with the wind to their backs looked like it was going to be an afternoon of dropsy as they knocked on from the kick off. A superb defensive set which saw the Outlaws make no metres at all before spilling the ball on the 4th tackle.

The Ravens showed of what was to come in the 6th minute as Jack Keeling went over the whitewash to be denied by the ref who disallowed for offside from a kick.

Just minutes later as more pressure from the Ravens saw Jay Rawlings score his first try for the club which was ably converted by Dave Wimbury. The next try came from a rampaging break from Rhamel Blake in his own passed onto the supporting Jack Keeling to go over for a try converted again by Dave Wimbury to give the Ravens a 12- nil lead.

The Ravens superb defence was finally pierced by Outlaws number 22 to score under the posts which he converted himself to bring them back into the game.

The response from the Ravens was immediate as from the kick off forced an error from the Outlaws after an excellent kick chase. Conor Thorneycroft who had now moved from the wing into the role of hooker from acting half back scooted over the line from close range to score a try, converted yet again by Dave Wimbury.

It took another nine minutes after using the wind to their advantage and a great penalty touch finder saw the Ravens back on the attack with the ball been spread wide for Sean Flynn to sprint 30 metres to score in the corner but not converted. Then just bang on halftime James Curgenven went over after finding space and side-stepping the oncoming defender, converted by Dave Wimbury to give the Ravens a 28 pts to 6pts lead.

The second half started off just like the first ended with Sean Flynn going over in the corner for his 2nd try of the match, this was not converted.

The next 20 mins was a bit of an arm wrestle as the Outlaws stepped up a gear and defended a lot better and they came up with the next points as a fortunate kick on the last tackle hit the post and dropped into the oncoming Outlaws chaser Stephen Page to score what couldnt be an easier try, converted by outlaws number 22.

As in the first half when the Outlaws scored a try, the Ravens posted an immediate response as Sean Flynn went over to collect a hat trick of tries to cap of an immense performance in attack and defence. Conversion was missed as the wind was making it difficult to hit the target. Five minutes later saw Sean Sudworth take advantage of the now tiring Outlaws defence with a show and go and went over from 10 metres out to score under the post which was converted by Dave Wimbury.

The best was saved for last with what must have been a minute left on the clock as the Outlaws were pressing on the Ravens line when they dropped the ball, saw Rhamel Blake scoop up the loose ball as he ran the whole length of the field out sprinting the chasing Outlaws to score the try of the match, converted by Dave Wimbury. To give a final score of NEW Ravens 52 Nottingham Outlaws 12 to give the Ravens a well earned win.

Man of the Match went to Jay Rawlings for making great metres he took the ball in and crunching tackles on the opposition, Jay only won it narrowly as great performances from Conor Thorneycroft, Rhamel Blake and Sean Flynn ran him very close and the rest of the team put in a top performance as well.
