Your News Sevenoaks club round up

On Saturday, and for the first time in many a wet and muddy weekend, the Oaks senior teams went unbeaten, only for the bubble to be burst by the dismal England performance against Wales in the 6-Nations decider.

Sevenoaks 1st XV entertained Aylesford Bulls at Sevenoaks School due to Knole Paddock pitches being unplayable. From the start, Oaks went on the attack and were awarded with two quick tries from Matt Dodd and Alex Barber. Then great interplay between Thierry Walker and Jonny Barber was rewarded with a try from Jonny Barber which he converted. The half time score was Sevenoaks 19 - Aylesford Bulls 8.

Sevenoaks started the second half knowing one more try would secure a bonus point and the whole team played their part. Sevenoaks took the game out of Aylesford's hands by slowing the game down and taking kicks at goal to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Constant pressure from Sevenoaks gave Roger Tafua a try and Sevenoaks a four try bonus point, which was thoroughly deserved and leaving the final score Sevenoaks 32 - Aylesford Bulls 11, a very important win in the battle to avoid relegation.

In cold, wet and muddy conditions at Whitstable, Sevenoaks 3ís started well when skipper for the day Pip Somerset, who otherwise had a quiet game, won the toss of the coin, which allowed the team to commence battle up the hill and against the wind, rain and mud tides, thereby saving the best for the second half. After a hard fought match, that unbelievably saw prop/wing Rob Thurnell score his second try in consecutive matches, Oaks were the victors by 15 point to 5.

Blandford wins full England cap, Farrance picked for East of England 10s, Sarries u17s, with 4 Oaks players, thrash Argentine tourists and the Oaks squad play in the last 8 of the National cup on Sunday

The success for the u17 squad just keeps on coming. On Sunday the squad will play Shelford in the south east final of the national cup and victory will put the boys into the last 4. The game will be played at Farnham RFC with a kick off time of 16h30pm (headlamps will be provided apparently!!) so we would really appreciate as much support from the club as possible. This is the biggest club game of the boys short careers and the nerves are building, although after taking Winchesterís 2 year unbeaten record in the last round the boys are confident.

On the representative front number 8 Matt Blandford made his full England u17 debut last week, coming off the bench to play a big part in 2 of Englandís tries in an impressive win against Georgia U18 at Broadstreet. Sarries lock Zak Farrance has been selected to play for the East of England in a 10s tournament in Bath this weekend, immediately after which he will be flying up the M4 to play for Oaks against that is commitment. Meanwhile Zak joined his Oaks colleagues Sam Vizard, Henry Wheadon and Ryan Ward in representing the Saracens u17s against a touring Argentinian side and the boys were successful scoring loads to very little! Commiserations go to fly half Will Edwards who missed out on selection with a dislocated shoulder. Everyone in our tight knit squad is wishing Will a speedy recovery.

Not to be outdone, the u16s have secured the following representative honours:

Alex Everett - Kent/London & SE Division/England South squad

Jens Johansson- Kent/Saracens Academy/London & SE Division (ruptured his ACL playing for Division otherwise would have probably joined Alex in England set up)
