HAWKS U18 GET SHOW BACK ON THE ROAD

GREENOCK WANDERERS 5 GLASGOW HAWKS 26

THE UNDER 18S TRAVELLED TO GREENOCK ON SATURDAY DETERMINED TO RESUME THEIR WINNING WAYS. OUR FIRST DEFEATS OF THE SEASON HAD LEFT THE BOYS A LITTLE SHELL SHOCKED BUT OUR FOCUS ALL WEEK HAD BEEN TO FOCUS ON UPPING THE INTENSITY OF OUR DEFENCE AND USING THE PRESSURE CREATED TO DOMINATE THE OPPOSITION.

TO THIS END, THE DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE WAS EXCELLENT, HAWKS LINE SPEED AND OFFENSIVE TACKLING RESULTING IN 4 TRIES FROM TURNOVERS. SOME OF OUR MORE ANALYTICAL SUPPORTERS FELT OUR TACTICS HAD BEEN TAKEN FROM THE EARLY 1900s SUCH WAS THE 'KICK AND RUSH' NATURE OF OUR SCORES. THIS WAS A RESULT OF AN OUTSTANDING DEFENSIVE EFFORT MORE THAN A TACTICAL PLAN.

IN FACT, THE CONTRAST WITH OUR ATTACK WAS OBVIOUS. WHILST WE CONTROLLED FIELD POSITION WITH SOME ASTUTE KICKING, OUR ATTACK WAS TOO LATERAL AND ONE DIMENSIONAL. THE BOYS ARE WELL AWARE THAT WE NEED TO BE MORE ACCURATE IN OUR ATTACK AND THIS IS AN AREA WHERE WE ARE IMPROVING.

CREDIT MUST GO TO GREENOCK, WHO FOUGHT TO THE END AND WERE REWARDED WITH A LATE CONSOLATION TRY, WELL DESERVED.
