Your News National League 2 North review

Of the seven away wins in SSE National League Two North - a remarkable statistic in anyones book - Preston Grasshoppers success at Stockport was undoubtedly the most dramatic. After an epic game of 14 tries and three individual hat-tricks, Hoppers emerged with a 48-47 win. Sean Taylor and Dominic Moon scored three tries apiece for the visitors a feat that was matched by home tight-head prop James Watson to record their six successive victory. The aggregate of 95 points was the highest in a single game in the division this season and the most since Hoppers beat Otley 90-5 in April last season.

Preston are now third in the table behind leaders Stourbridge and second-placed Hull Ionians, who both won at the weekend. Ionians, though, lost further ground on the Saxons after failing to take maximum points in a 22-18 win at Bromsgrove. Stourbridge, meanwhile, maintained their perfect record with six tries in a 36-22 win at Hull.

Westoe earned their second win in the space of the week and in the process left Huddersfield still seeking their first win of the season. Ollie Cracknell scored a try either side of half-time and scrum-half Matthew Mellish contributed 17 points though a try, two penalties and three conversions.

Darlington Mowden Park scrum-half Zylon McGaffin was another of Saturdays hat-trick heroes, scoring a treble inside 13 minutes of the final quarter to help his side to a 27-21 victory at Caldy.

Otley came desperately close to overhauling an 11-point half-time deficit before falling to a 27-23 loss at home to Leicester Lions, while Sheffield Tigers continue to show their opening day setback at Hull Ionians was only a temporary blip with an eighth consecutive victory against a Luctonians side that had previously not been beaten at home.

Remarkably, Dudley Kingswinford were the only side to win at home on Saturday. DK ran in five tries to beat Birmingham & Solihull 33-17.
