Your News Hawks under 18s top League

After the second week of the Under 18 West League Div.1 and in their debut season at this age group, Gasgow Hawks sit at the top of the League as the only team with 2 victories out of 2. Early in the season as it is, the more significant factor in this fact is the resiliance and determination showed by this squad. Despite various injuries and illnesses, the boys put in a tremendous performance against a physical and well-organised Hamilton side on Saturday. The improvement shown over the last 3 months is credit to the boys hard work and, just as importantly, their ability to adapt to different situations.

Despite being behind to 2 early tries the team showed excellent ball retention skills to dominate possession and earn a well worked try through multiple phases to close the half at 12-7 down.

In the second half, the boys showed character and some good skills to score 2 tries, 1 conversion and a penalty to close out the game and win by 22-12 in front of a good crowd. To put the win in to context, Hawks finished with a prop in the second row, a prop at outside centre and 2 flankers on the wings and still managed to score the 10 unanswered points to secure the win.

It is very early in the season but if the squad continue to show this spirit, the coaching team and parents/friends can look forward to some exciting Saturdays in the season ahead.

Thanks to Hamilton for their part in a tremendous game of rugby

Hawks U18s are very grateful to Colin Sinclair for providing specialist sprint coaching to the squad. Colin has been kind enough to share his time and his vast wealth of knowledge of sprint techniques with the boys, who are thoroughly enjoying the experience. Colin is an ex stand off who is keen to help the boys to become better athletes.

Thanks Colin
