Teignmouth’s “never say die” spirit and desire to win saw them through a tough away fixture against a very competitive Topsham team. It was the home side who took the lead before Morgan Tait crashed through several tacklers to draw Teignmouth level. With the close of the second half, Topsham regained the lead with 10 points to 5. With both sides giving their all in the second half, Teignmouth managed to draw level courtesy of Dan Woollnough who broke through and out paced the cover defence to score in the corner. Teignmouth took the lead for the first time through Freddy Fearnley who provided a truly excellent performance throughout the game. Topsham fought back and broke out straight from the kick off to draw level, now playing down the hill and it was looking tough for Teignmouth to hold on. However, the youngsters rallied and kept attacking with Freddy, Morgan and Nick Langley-Pope making surging runs into the Topsham half with Jamie Kelly always at the heart of Teignmouth’s attacking and defending. It was just reward for Jamie to score the winning tries, with two in the last five minutes. Topsham scored later on as did Teignmouth’s Joe Wilcox, but the referee was unsighted and awarded an attacking scrum. Topsham could not quite raise their game again and the Teignmouth youngsters’ spirit saw them through to win an excellent game of rugby.
