Your News Woodbridge U11 launch Balloon race to help club extension

Woodbridge Rugby Clubs U11 squad started a balloon race this weekend to raise further funds to support its new changing room extension. The squad interrupted its regular training session on Sunday 18 March to release hundreds of balloons - each sponsor hoping that their balloon would be returned from furthest away.

The Clubs unprecedented popularity among youth, ladies, veterans and mens rugby players have put its facilities under pressure. Its old changing rooms and tired interiors were over-stretched supporting rugby seven days a week for hundreds of lovers of the sport. So its committee took action and undertook a bold expansion plan which involved ambitious fundraising from inside and outside the Club.

The Clubs significant fundraising with events like this balloon race have added to the generous grants awarded by The Rugby Football Union, Viridor Credits Environmental Company, Biffaward, Suffolk Coastal District Council, Suffolk County Council and Woodbridge Town Council to build an impressive extension. Three new changing rooms are being added with ensuite showers and extra toilet facilities. A new refs room has also been built together with a gymnasium and the disabled access has been much improved. All in the entire project will have cost in excess of 200,000, nearly 2,000 of which has been raised by the U11s. Soon six teams of men, women, boys and/or girls will all be able to change and shower in their own civilised private facilities.
