The 1st XV may have thought bottom of the table Midwives would be unable to deliver on Saturday but that was far from the case. The home side took an early lead and had earned a four-try bonus point by half time.

The final score of 36-20 to Midwives was no more than both teams deserved and the Oaks 1st XV will have to improve in the weeks ahead if they want to stay clear of the danger zone.

It may have been a disappointing performance from the team, but nothing should detract from skipper George Roffey’s achievement of notching up 150 1st XV league appearances. Great effort George, you've done us proud! The other bright notes on the day were a first league try for Johnny Short, a strong debut from John “Sonny Bill” Henley and a rampaging second-half hat trick from (who else?) Matt Dodd.

Back at the Paddock, several U18s were pressed into service for the 4s (Acorns) against Thanet and, on their senior debuts, came up trumps with a 50-point victory. Well done lads - have we glimpsed the future?

After hard work from the managers and skippers we have three home fixtures this Saturday - all 3pm KOs:

1s v Old Dunstonians - HOME

2s v Beckenham 2's - HOME

Acorns v East Peckham - HOME
