LEICESTERSHIRE snatched a dramatic 21-20 win over East Midlands at Market Harborough this evening to book their place in the Midlands final of the National Under 20 Championship.

Tom Moxons conversion of number eight Tom Morriss second try of the night, from the final play of the match, sealed the win and took Leicestershire through to the final where they will meet Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire at Rugby Lions Webb Ellis Road ground on March 14 (7.30pm).

East Midlands were 17 points up in the first 18 minutes and they led until the final seconds when Leicestershire capitalised on the sending off of lock Dan Brotherton (Coventry) for a spear tackle.

Leicestershire managed to use their one man advantage to shunt East Midlands over the line from a scrum for the try which left fly-half Moxon (Loughborough Students) with a potentially awkward conversion which he landed with aplomb.

East Midlandss opening salvo included tries from flanker George Messum (Loughborough Students) and number eight Sam Heygate (Loughborough Students) both of which were converted by Lawrence Rayner of Old Albanians.

Leicestershire reduced the deficit just before the break when they were awarded a penalty try after a scrum went down and Moxon added the conversion.

Morris of Hinckley scored his first try from a driving line out early in the second half and Moxon tagged on the extras to set up a tense final quarter.

Leicestershires pack dominated but East Midlands were dangerous when they managed to break from defence and they went six points clear when Rayner landed a penalty five minutes from time.

But Leicestershire applied the pressure as the clock ran down and Brothertons dismissal gave them the opening they needed to win Midlands Group A.
