Loughborough Students won the top- of- the- table battle at Lockwood Park to open up a 16- point gap between themselves and nearest rivals Huddersfield in National League Two
North. Three tries in each half from the Students condemned the West Yorkshire outfit to their second consecutive home defeat to leave Dave Morris’s men in a virtually unassailable
position at the summit of the league.
Loughborough, though, are unlikely to have it all their own way this coming weekend as they travel to in- form Bromsgrove, who warmed up for their biggest test of the season with a
50- point thrashing of relegation- threatened Otley. Two tries apiece from Phillip Horton and Ben Howard helped Bromsgrove maintain their proud home record at Finstall Park where
they have only lost once this season.
Third- placed Westoe failed to put pressure on Huddersfield in the race for the second promotion spot after losing at home to Hull Ionians. Ionians trailed 10-13 at the break but two
second- half penalties from Dave Marshall proved enough to see them chalk up their ninth win of the campaign. City rivals Hull also recorded a win away to Harrogate, who only stay
out of the bottom three on points difference. Fly- half James Cameron booted two penalties and converted all four of Hull’s tries in a 34-25 win at Claro Road.
In the day’s other rescheduled game, Luctonians proved too strong for Sheffield Tigers and ran out 22-15 winners.
