League leaders Loughborough Students warmed up for next weekend’s visit to title rivals Huddersfield with their eleventh try- bonus point win of the season. In their first home game of
2012, the students ran amok to win 57-17 and put a serious dent in Caldy’s own promotion credentials. Craig Holland boosted his tally of tries for the season to 19 with a brace of
scores, and Callum Wilson and Ed Rolston also crossed for try doubles.
Dave Morris’ side hold a 12- point advantage over Huddersfield at the top of the table, knowing that victory at Lockwood Park in Saturday’s re- arranged game would make the title
theirs to lose. Huddersfield go into the game on the back of a seven- try, 40-7 hammering of struggling Kendal. Kendal prop up the table with Otley and Leicester Lions, who fought out
a 22- all draw, occupying the two other places in the relegation zone.
Westoe’s promotion hopes suffered a blow when they crashed to a 33-22 loss at Stockport, hooker Tom Cruse proving the top gun with a couple of tries for ‘Port. The victory lifted the
Cheshire side above Bromsgrove, who were undone by winger Sam Wilson’s hat- trick in a 34-32 home win for Hull Ionians. Sheffield Tigers have now won as many games as they
have lost (10) following a 31-21 win at Preston.
Elsewhere, Harrogate stunned Nuneaton by scoring 27 unanswered points in the second half to overturn a 21-0 half- time deficit and Hull also came from behind to win at Luctonians.
