Your News Woodbridge 15 - Harwich & Dovercourt 25

Woodbridge took early pressure from a large Harwich side and despite having the wind with them took one of three penalty chances from the visitors over-enthusiastic forwards. Harwich also kicked a penalty and the score was even for most of the first half despite Woodbridge having the lions share of territory on the well prepared pitch. Some penetrating runs with ball in hand and to chase frequent kicks, particularly Francis, Hutchins and Mills (C) for Harwich and Warriors Nbul, Yorke and Davidson were met with increasingly crunching tackling. None more so than a suspected spear tackle from Nbul, putting Woodbridge to 14 for the match), Warrior Codd, and a try-saver from Harwichs Francis on Gray. Just before half time Harwichs hard working Hutchins exploited a gap to put them a converted try ahead.

The second half saw Harwich dominant from the whistle with their runners, accurately supplied by scrum half Keen, forcing Woodbridge into their own 22 where an uncharacteristic scrum turnover and missed tackles allowed Hutchins to score again. Woodbridge hands in the ruck then set up a penalty attack and the visitors big prop, Hatcher, barrelled through tired arms to score a converted try. Woodbridge rallied and Webb to carried to halfway, off loaded to Andrews who sprinted half the pitch to score and bring the crowd to life. Reinvigorated Warriors interfered, spoilt and harried Harwich until their reliable line-out and a great team effort gave Steward a converted try and a seven point gap. Harwich held on, won a penalty within kicking range and, instead of trying for the bonus point, kicked for 3 points.
