Preston Grasshoppers boast the top try scorer and the third best kicker in the league, but they can now also claim the biggest star too, following the news that
Rugby League legend Sean Long has signed for the club. Long will make his debut against Hull Ionians on November 19 and his arrival will be most welcome
after ‘Hoppers slipped two places in the table to seventh following a 30-21 defeat at Hull which saw Matt Hughes, National Two North’s top finisher, fail to
cross the whitewash.
Loughborough Students are still the side to beat, though, after extending their lead at the top of the division to five points. The Students recorded a 39-8 win
at Westoe while second- placed Caldy were narrowly beaten away to Bromsgrove, who secured a dramatic victory when James Lloyd- Jones went over for a
late try.
Luctonians recovered from the shock of going behind early on against Hull Ionians - the league’s bottom club - to run out comfortable winners in the end.
Huddersfield are the side immediately below them in the table after Dan Hyde’s men overturned a six- point deficit at half- time to win 18-14 at Sheffield
Tigers. The league’s top points scorer, Chris Johnson, again came into his own with a try and a conversion and two penalties.
Captain Ed Smithies crowned his 300th appearance for Harrogate with a trademark try to help steer his side to a much- needed derby win over Otley.
Elsewhere, there were wins for Leicester Lions and Stockport.
