In what was a memorable day for the Loughborough Students midfield, outside centre Chris Kinloch scored a hat- trick of tries in the 59-24 win over Kendal
and the man inside him, Stuart Hall, contributed 19 points through a score of his own and seven conversions. The bonus- point victory saw The Students
open up a four point gap between themselves and second- placed Luctonians, who came away from Nuneaton with the narrowest of victories.
Just five points covers the sides between second and seventh inclusive, Westoe being on level pegging with Luctonians thanks to their impressive bonus
point tally. The north- easterners have picked up eight bonus points - twice as many as their promotion rivals – the latest one coming in the 34-22 win at Hull
Ionians, the side that continues to prop up the division.
Caldy and Huddersfield stay in close contention in fifth and sixth, but both were made to work hard to achieve home wins over Hull and Leicester Lions
respectively. Preston Grasshoppers are just a point further back in the standings after a 39-10 win over struggling Harrogate extended their unbeaten run to
five games. Right wing Matt Hughes scored a hat- trick in the game at Lightfoot Green and now tops the division’s try scoring charts with 11.
Elsewhere, Sheffield Tigers edged a tense game at Stockport, largely thanks to a man- of- the- match display from James Broadley, and Otley came out on
top against Bromsgrove in a game that produced nine tries and four yellow cards.
