Woodbridge welcomed 2nd placed Wisbech to a dry and breezy Bromeswell and

was immediately given a lesson in forward possession and back play as

Wisbech's agile fly half Pettit scored after some strong mauling on five

minutes. The Warriors countered with a penalty from their full back Browne

but Wisbech continued to attack using forward strength, particularly

Heighton, to launch wings Napier and Vickers to good effect. Both scored

from quick passing and wide running despite occasionally spirited tackling

from a sometimes disorganised Woodbridge defence. Woodbridge did well in the

set pieces but their guests mauled and rucked better and often sucked too

many defenders into the breakdown which only made their backs jobs easier.

The second half started the same way and Wisbech flanker Seale scored

quickly but Woodbridge began to get the measure of their opponent's tactics

and began to hold more possession and started running at them with purpose.

In an increasingly bad tempered, but exciting, game both sides upped the

intensity until Woodbridge Captain Bubb, working hard throughout the game,

scored a well-worked try after his fellow forwards fought hard through

several mauls and drives. Although the Wisbech wingers continued to

threaten, play spent more time up their end courtesy, in part, to penalties

against them. The Warriors put in more try-saving tackles but couldn't stop

Pettit scoring again. They ended well however when a magnificent take of a

clearance kick set up Warrior Yorke for a well-deserved try. Woodbridge

Warriors 13; Wisbech 31.
