Following a patchy and unsettled last season for its senior men’s team Woodbridge Warriors new Head Coach, Drew Fautley is keen to increase preparation for the forthcoming season. The team has already been training once a week since its last league match in April but Fautley is stepping up preparation with a move to training on a Tuesday and Wednesday to a structured schedule.

Drew’s senior men’s coaching team of Paul Casson, Jerry Bodkin and Andy Wilesmith is introducing an integrated training regime for the Warriors involving training a single squad from which they will select four teams; Firsts, Development, Colts and Social. As Drew says “My method is inclusive – I want the same high standards of preparation applied across the Club and, for senior men’s, this means training the squad together. Paul, Jerry, Andy and I will co-ordinate activity on the training field across the old firsts, seconds, thirds and colts boundaries so that we and the players can see clearly everyone’s standard and understand team selection criteria”.

Head of Rugby Simon Bennett adds “Drew has already had a positive impact on the players – his Thursday sessions have been well attended and liked, his use of social media has involved and motivated the squad but most of all his training is thought through, he explains what he is going to do and where it fits into the game, he executes it well and then explains the next stage. It is intelligent training and not just macho ‘beasting’ for the sake of it”.

And pre-season training is Club – wide. Hard on the heels of last season’s promotion to RFUW Championship SE 2 League the Woodbridge Amazons senior women’s team also kicked off its 2011/12 campaign in earnest last Wednesday. Captain Lou Rickard called for new players to come and join in the training “the team has achieved a great deal but always needs more members – whether you are experienced or not our training will improve you physically and mentally – there is experience and a great team spirit here and a track record of proven success. Just come along to the Club at 7pm on a Wednesday and join in”.
