Your News England U18 pay visit to French local club

England U18 did their bit for rugby in the community today after visiting French Second Division side Tarbes Pyrenees Rugby Club for a training session with the Under 13 and Under 15 age groups.

The Tarbes youngsters thoroughly enjoyed the visit of the England squad and Head Coach John Fletcher was full of praise for his players and stressed the importance of community visits.

“It’s a mutually beneficial thing," he said. “It keeps our guys humble in the sense that they were that young once, and it’s great for the kids because they get to train with the best players in England at this age level.

“Tarbes have been really welcoming, everyone had a good time and we’re delighted to be involved in any legacy building exercise. If we can inspire one or two of these players to push on, then even better.”

England U18 and London Irish scrum half James Lightfoot-Brown was equally complimentary about the mini-excursion, and said:

“It’s great to get out there in the sun and have a kick-around with these young players. A few of them weren’t afraid to get stuck in and that’s great to see. We’ve got a big game coming up on Saturday and this kind of trip is perfect for team building, as well as giving something back to the game.”

England U18 are in action in the FIRA/AER Championship final against Ireland on Saturday, April 23. The game is live on EuroSport 2 from 5.15pm (UK time).
