Your News North girls wait for call up

NORTH OF England womens RU players involved in matches and a festival at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire on Sunday are now waiting to see whether their efforts have caught the eye of the national selectors sufficiently for them to make further progress up the representative ladder.

At senior level the womens structure has England trial games in May to refine the talent still further, while at Under 18s and Under 15s levels, squads will be selected for National Talent Development Camps in August. These squads are expected to be confirmed at the end of May.

The North Under 18s Womens team completed their fixture programme with a 15-12 victory over the South West at Hartpury, but despite finishing with two wins from their three-match series, they were pipped for second place by the team they had just beaten.

A 32-0 defeat by the winners London & South East was sandwiched between an opening 12-5 win over the Midlands and last weekends success, leaving the North in third place in the table despite being the only side other than the winners to register two wins.

In the final analysis, of course, the whole Divisional process is about player development and talent identification, although the competitive nature of the participants inevitably means that results still have significance among the players.

The South West edged out the North on the scoring statistics after both finished with eight match points, with London finishing unbeaten in top spot with 11 points.

In the Under 15 Festival at Hartpury, the North beat the South West 24-12, but went down 14-0 against London & South East and 20-5 against the Midlands.
