Drew Fautley named as Head Coach at Woodbridge

Hard on the heels of last week’s victory in the WRUFC National Challenge South East 1 League for their Amazons senior women’s team, Woodbridge Rugby Club has appointed a high profile new Head Coach for their senior men’s team, the Warriors. Drew Fautley will take over with immediate effect to make an early start on the 2011/12 campaign.

Drew has a pedigree background having started coaching in 1988 with Yale University while still playing for New York Rugby Club. He went on to coach at Columbia University, Iona College, New York Rugby Club (Men and Women) and the Northeast Territorial Men’s and Women’s sides.

Coach to the USA National Women’s Sevens Team he got them to third place in the 2009 World Cup in Dubai and was Manager, Coach and Analyst of the USA National Men’s Team the last two years on the IRB World Sevens Series. Returning to England in 2010 he joins Woodbridge after a short spell at Diss. Head of Rugby Simon Bennett commented “this has been a patchy and unsettled season for the Warriors, the departure of their last coach mid-season hit morale and I needed to lift our game with some much needed experience and stability. We are lucky that we have such a talented and strong motivator in Drew with whom we have exchanged commitments. The team has welcomed the marked improvement in training, communications and the professional approach to the game he brings every time he comes to the club, it should be an interesting summer with lots of high octane rugby in the 2011/2012 season ahead”.

Drew’s priorities will be to get the Warriors back into the top half of the league but he also plans on working with a strong local coaching core group to help the Club continue to develop its cohesive structure for the development of players and coaches at all levels and across its many teams. The Club is well into fundraising for some exciting expansion to better serve its 15 teams from veterans, men's and women's seniors, through colts to its 300 strong youth section.

Drew says “It is a great feeling at Woodbridge, the response to my appointment has been very positive. The impressive way that the Club’s management have stepped up to show support for the players reflects the direction they are focusing on with a sense of renaissance. In the past few weeks I have been lucky enough to observe the team as they finished the season up and we have lots of work to do, but, a good group of committed people that will hopefully turn it all into a reality. To have the backing of the players, management and club members is huge and I do not take my role lightly hoping to create an addiction for good rugby at all levels within the club.
