Your News England U18 Clubs and Schools announce team for clash with Ireland

England Under 18s Clubs and Schools have named their team to take on Ireland Under 18 Clubs this Sunday (April 10, 11.30) at Ashbourne RFC, Dublin.

There are six changes to the starting XV that lined up against Worcester Warriors Academy Under 19 last Sunday. Various combinations were tested by the coaching team during the warm up fixture which finished 33-58 to the Warriors.

The majority of changes for Sundays international are made to the back line which contains four players from London and the South East. Tom Harty (Cobham RFC, Epsom College), who has passed a fitness test following concerns over his reoccurring knee injury, starts on the wing and Harry Sloan (Harlequins, Skinners School) and James Crossley (North Walsham RFC, Wymondham College) step up from the bench at 12 and 13 respectively.

One South West scrum half replaces another as Joe Bartlett (Taunton RFC, Ivybridge Community College) gets the nod over Henry Taylor (Harlequins, Cranleigh School) and Josh Pettet (Sevenoaks RFC, Cranbrook School) starts at five as Vice Captain, Joe Robinson (Newcastle Falcons, Sedbergh School) moves to eight.

England scored five tries against a physical Worcester team and four of the try scorers make the initial XV; Tom Bowen (Lewes RFC, Sussex Downs College), Hugo Govett (Leeds Grammar School), Joe Bartlett and Nico Woodward.

There were some tough decisions to be made and we needed the training session this afternoon to make those final calls, said Head Coach, Paul Mullan.

To play for England is a remarkable achievement and we want to ensure that the boys not only have a positive experience but that they get the result that we know they are capable of.

We let ourselves down last week against Worcester but we have watched the video with the boys today and worked hard in training to improve some key areas. The Irish will want to play a strong running game and we need to ensure we do not give them the space or time on the ball.
