Huddersfield fly- half Chris Johnson landed a drop goal with the final kick of the game to pass 300 points for the season and, more importantly, hand his side
a memorable 13-10 win over Loughborough Students.
The Students’ setback in west Yorkshire and Westoe’s defeat at champions elect Fylde has handed the initiative to Leicester Lions in the race for the second
promotion spot. The Lions ran in six tries in a 45-29 win against a Preston Grasshoppers side that was flattered by three converted tries in the final 11
minutes. Fylde, meanwhile, need just one point to reach 1,000 for the season after a Michael Waywall hat- trick put them another step closer to the title.
At the bottom end of the table, Rugby Lions’ relegation alongside already doomed Manchester was confirmed after they lost 39-0 at Hull. Morley look
favourites to join them in dropping out of the division as their 37-19 loss at Harrogate leaves them eight points adrift of safety, although they do have two
games in hand on Nuneaton, the side immediately above them in the table. Nuneaton, though, look determined to preserve their National Two North status
after making it three bonus point wins in the last four games with a 37-14 victory against Hull Ionians.
Craig Ross and Mike Manley both scored hat- tricks as Caldy rattled up a century of points and 16 tries against Manchester, while 19 points from the boot of
Mark Ireland helped Kendal to a 29-22 win at Luctonians.
