A last minute no-show failed to deter a record turnout to see the unbeaten Amazons reach an unassailable point victory in the WRUFC National Challenge South East 1 League 2010/11.

League laggards Portsmouth Valkyries cried off late in the week to deny the Amazons a league match but frantic phone calls by Captain EJ Stearn and some stoic volunteering raised a Barbarians team to entertain the crowd. The sunshine added to a festival atmosphere as the Amazons took on their plucky opponents with a predictable outcome which showcased some of the high class scrimmaging and three-quarters running style that has earned the Woodbridge ladies team league honours this season.

Although they have one outstanding fixture against Hampstead statistically they cannot be caught and next season will be playing in RFUW Championship SE 2 which is just 2 leagues from Premiership!

Captain EJ Stearn said “I’d like to thank Coach Roger Coombs, without his persistence, discipline and dedication we wouldn’t have made it this far. The team has been fantastic and turned out in all conditions to train and build upon last season’s performance to achieve this promotion. Team spirit has been key to going up a league and it will be critical to staying up – we have one or two changes with retirements and our challenge will be to give new players the spirit that has got us here”.
