Your News Lancashire Schools Final has the Roses edge

ROSES rivalry will add an extra dimension to the final of the UCLAN Schools Under 16s Floodlit Cup at Preston Grasshoppers RUFC on Wednesday (6.30 kick-off) when St Peter's, York and Manchester GS meet.

It will be Manchester's third trip to the showpiece in three years whilst St Peter's will be aiming to lift this much coveted schools trophy for the first time in its 21-year history.

In the first of two exciting semi finals, St Peter's went through on the "tries scored" rule in a 17-17 draw with Wilmslow High School at the end of extra time, while in another tight semi-final Manchester GS squeezed past Lymm High School 6-5 to set up an excellent final.

Lecturer in Sports Coaching at UCLAN, Nick Passenger, said: "The standard of rugby throughout has been superb and the spirit in which each team has approached the tournament has been brilliant, which is clearly a reflection on the rugby ethos at the competing schools."
