The England Women’s A team to take on the Nomads at Esher RFC on Saturday February 12th, kick off 2pm, has been announced.
In the A team’s first outing this season, Lichfield prop Rosemarie Crowley will skipper the side against the women’s game equililent of the Barbarians. And it is a strong 22 too with two players – Crowley and Tamara Taylor – featuring in last year’s Rugby World Cup, while Lichfield flanker Jane Leonard, who has eight caps, returns from a year on the sidelines through injury. Wasps hooker Olivia Poore has also been capped at senior level.
England A Head Coach Mike Barnett, whose side will also take on Spain and compete in the European Trophy this season, said: “We are really looking forward to getting our season underway. We have done a lot of training and now we need to put all that into practice.
“This really is a new look side. We have several young players in this squad and although we obviously want to win, what we also want to do is develop our players. Not only are we looking at the here and now but also the next world cup in four years time and that is why we are giving these players the chance now. They are all exciting and promising players and with some experienced heads mixed in, like Roz Crowley, Tamara Taylor and Jane Leonard, I am sure this will be a good match. It is also great to welcome Jane Leonard back to the fold after her year out injured. She is raring to go.”
