Your News Lancashire club & colts 7's at Blackburn

RUGBY Union development in Lancashire takes on a competitive dimension later this year when the inaugural Club & Colts 7s Tournament is held in June at Blackburn RUFC.

A very busy development programme has this season been focused on coaching support for all levels and all strands of the game, but the sevens initiative provides the opportunity for clubs and players to put their talent on show at both age-group and open age levels.

The Club 7s event will take place on Saturday, June 11 and is open to all Lancashire clubs. All players must be a minimum of 18 years old. The Colts 7s event is the following day, Sunday, June12 and is open to all Under 19 Senior Colts teams.

There will be awards and prizes for the winners & runners-up; the Plate winners and runners-up; and Player of the Tournament, with the awards being presented by England 7s, Barbarians & Lancashire star Nick Royle.

As a leading county we are committed to providing exciting opportunities for rugby players in Lancashire. said Mark Nelson, Manager of the Lancashire Rugby Development Project: The Lancashire 7s Club and Colts Competition is a great example of initiatives that we are running to support our clubs through the three Development Centres in the County.

Rugby Union is now an Olympic Sport and at the moment Sevens Rugby is the form of the game that is being played in the global Games.

We are delighted that we can provide opportunities for players to play this exciting game at Blackburn RUFC which is an excellent club with great facilities.

The Senior Club competition on the Saturday, followed by the Colts Tournament on the Sunday, is a very ambitious project designed to promote the game in Lancashire and it's great that Nick Royle will be presenting the prizes.

The entry fee is 150, with 75 refunded after registration, with prize money of 150 for competition winners, 75 for runners-up, as well as cash awards for the Plate finalists and the Player of Tournament 50. Entries must be registered by May 23, 2011.

Entries with cheque for 150 made payable to LCRFU to Mark Nelson, 97 Smithy Lane, St. Annes, Lancashire FY8 3PE
