RUGBY Union County Champions Lancashire are already looking to the future and setting out their stall for a vigorous defence of the Bill Beaumont Championship title in 2011.

The County's rugby management are determined to recruit another strong squad of high-quality players for the series of games in May 2011. They open their campaign with a home game on Saturday, 7th May against Warwickshire at Sedgley Park, followed by a Roses battle with Yorkshire at Fylde a week

later on 14th May. Their final game is an away fixture against Cheshire on 21st May.

Lancashire has announced its senior squad rugby management team for the Championship campaign in 2011, with Mark Nelson continuing as Head Coach, assisted by Martin Scott and Pete Angelsea as forward coaches. Chairman of Selectors is Dave Hodgson and the Team Manager is Steve Rigby. The

physiotherapists are Helen Pennington and Anthony Bentham.

Steve Rigby said: "We intend to recruit players from clubs in the county and those who've moved from our clubs elsewhere. For instance, squad members in recent seasons have included Ryan de la Harpe (now at Moseley), Dan Baines (Rotherham), Louis McGowan (on loan from Rotherham to Sedgley Park), Alex Davies (Plymouth), Dave Ward (Cornish Pirates), Matt Williams (Doncaster), Seb Moss (Italy) and Alex Loney (formerly France, now Rotherham).

However, as usual, myself and the other selectors will be attending many fixtures in the run-up to May's first game and will be confirming players' commitment to the County.

"We all hope that the disruption caused by the weather to league rugby in 2009/10, which in turn affected player availability for the County Championship, doesn't occur in 2011. We are all very positive about our chances of retaining the Championship for the third consecutive year."
