Yarnbury RFC celebrated their 1872 formation with a tournament with Southport RFC who were also formed in the same year.

Yarnbury RFC took 150 of their members across the Pennines to play rugby on a warm, sunny day and in temperatures where cricket was more the norm.

With all players and many of the crowd dressed in 1872 costume; Yarnbury U14's and U15's managed to win both their games with an excellant display of open rugby, that was played in good spirit and was a credit to their the hard work they and their coaches have put in over the season.

Unfortunatley this cannot be said for the Yarnbury Vetrans who despite their years decided to play where they should have know better. The Vets opted to play a closed none expansive game, at times looking link a herd of aged elephants trooping in close order across the Misimara. The Vets managed to draw their game 5 pts each only taking the Silver wear following a "penalty kick" competition, after refusing any period of extra time.

The final game of the afternoon went to Southport XV which rounded off the good advert for the game and both clubs.

Yarnbury chairman Adam Stephenson stated " This was a great day for Yarnbury who, with Southport, are in a very select group of rugby teams who still play today" he added "Hopefully we can continue are relationship with Southport in the years to come"
