The route has been decided

The route for my Just for Kids bike ride this summer has been decided. We are going to leave from Newcastle instead of heading from London up North. We think by going in this direction we will be able to raise more funds for the charity.

The exact departure point will be confirmed in the coming weeks and when it is, it would be fantastic to have your support as i push off for the 550 mile trek. The route is below.

Newcastle - Leeds (93 miles) 1st Stay

Leeds - Sale RFC (48 miles) 2nd Stay

Sale - Leicester RFC (86 miles) 3rd Stay

Leicester - Northampton RFC (32 miles)

Northampton - Worcester RFC (66 miles) 4th Stay

Worcester - Gloucester RFC (29 miles)

Gloucester - Bristol RFC (33 miles)

Bristol - Bath RFC (14 miles) 5th Stay

Bath - London Irish (72 miles) 6th Stay

London Irish - London Wasps RFC (23 miles)

London Wasps - Saracens RFC (21 miles)

Saracens - Harlequins RFC (18 miles)

Harlequins - Twickenham (1 mile)

It will be really tough to complete this in the time scale i have set myself so any comments of support would be great. Also if you can get to any of the locations we are traveling to then it would be great to see some smiling faces when i get there!

We will post the dates on this blog in a couple of weeks when the forms for pledging will also be available. It is a fantastic charity and if you are able to help in any way it will be an enormous bonus for the kids of the North East.

message from Claire Barber : well Tom I never thought that handling the pr for your cycle challenge would turn into such a big task, no more than the week on the journey that I will be spending you and the team!! I think the interview with Sky TV was very exciting and I hope everyone will set their Sky plus and record it or more importantly get their mates in, eat pizza and celebrate your hard work and devotion to raising money for Just for Kids. By the way, you are not allowed pizza Tom, just big bowls of pasta and porridge for you!! extremely well done and of course a big thank you to John Jones at HM Plant who has already pledged half of our target £20,000 ... awesome!

Hi Tom, phew ... that is a heavy schedule - I know you have been looking for a bike sponsor this week and had a bit of a shock at the shape of the saddles!! You are so inspirational - from meeting you at the Teenage Cancer Ward at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, so much has happened. When we chatted outside the ward and you said you would like to help, I wasn't sure if you really meant it - wow what a total under-estimation. Your family should be very proud of you. Many times in your busy schedule you have taken time out, unpaid to talk about ways to help Just for Kids and the Teenage Cancer Trust - thank you so much Tom - you are awesome. We will support you all the way and hope that everyone who knows you and want to know you pitch in and help you with this fierce challenge. Claire Barber and Gary Thompson, supporters of the Tom May Cycle Challenge 2008.
