Deepings Rugby Union FC was founded in 1983 and moved to its current home at Linchfield Road, “The Home of Rugby Union in the Deepings” Deeping St James in 1987. Deepings RUFC is a member of the Hunts and Peterborough County Rugby Union and the East Midlands Rugby Union. Since the inception of amateur rugby leagues, Deepings IXV “The Green Machine” have won promotion on four separate occasions most recently in 2006/07 moving up from East Midlands 6 to 5. Other trophies include Courage Club Champions 1990/91 and 1996/97. The first ladies team was formed in the spring of 2004 and upon entering the wRFU league in 2006/07 the wRFU entered “The Deeping Devils” in the East Division 3, two divisions up from the normal entry point for new clubs. They went on to win the league in 2006/07and were promoted runners up in 2007/08. Deepings regularly now field four senior teams over a weekend, the IXV and the Ladies, along with a IIXV development side and “The Dinosaurs” the aptly named veterans’ team. Mini and junior rugby is now a major part of the Club's future with sides from 6 to 17 years old; in 2007 the club was awarded the prestigious RFU Community Rugby Seal of Approval. The Active Sports Seal of Approval accreditation programme is a method of examining, maintaining and improving the provision of rugby in the youth section of an active rugby club. The award means that DRUFC has proven that children from the age of 6 upwards will be given a family friendly and safe environment to receive coaching, with facilities and equipment of the highest order.
